About Us

16th International AELFE Conference

LSP in Multi-disciplinary contexts of Teaching and Research

We are pleased to welcome you to the next AELFE conference held in Mérida, Extremadura (Spain) on 15th and 16th of June, 2017.

What is Our Goal?

We think that in a constantly evolving international scenario, it is necessary to revise the roles of LSAP (languages for specific and academic purposes) and translation as part of multi-disciplinary contexts for teaching and research. We consider multi-disciplinary approaches as highly important for the integration of different professionals from different fields not only in Humanities but also Science and Technology. AELFE 2017 intends to bring together researchers, academics, and language professionals with a genuine concern in these areas, along with academics and experts from other fields.

This conference aims to address issues involving research and teaching applications of LSP and translation which may require more than one disciplinary scope for analysis and projection. We aim to gather quality research proposals dealing with such aspects not only in tertiary education, but also business / technology-oriented contexts. The goals are thus to have interesting thematic threads via presentations and discussions where colleagues may share their work and experience. Ultimately, we also aim to publish collections of presentations and selected papers derived from the conference.

More details soon on this conference website!

We look forward to welcoming you to Universidad de Extremadura in June 2017!!

This stunning city founded in 25 B.C. boasts a plethora of breath taking monuments, like the Roman Theatre, which proudly hosts one of Spain's most regarded theatre festivals every summer. There are so many must-sees that you may need to return to catch them all. You can buy a multiple monument ticket (Entrada Conjunta) to visit the most essential. Others you may just stumble upon as you walk around the city, such as The Forum or Milagros Aquaduct. The beauty of this monumental city radiates from its historical layers, where you can see Visgothic, Roman and Arabic cultures overlapping in a single space, such as the Alcazaba.

The following is a series of annoted weblinks for more information that may be useful for your time in Mérida.

This conference will be the 16th AELFE conference since the Association became European in 2001. However, prior to that, AELFE as a Spanish Association was founded in 1992, when its conference was called the Luso-Hispano conference of LSP. The first Luso-hispano conference took place in Badajoz in 1990, followed by Evora in 1991. Because this conference comes back to Extremadura after a quarter of a century, we thought that it would be appropriate to hold some events to celebrate its history and evolution, inviting former retired members of AELFE in Extremadura, conference organizers, and faculty already retired.

We will inform about such events soon.
